Fiona Asonga

Chief Executive Officer, Technology Service Providers Association of Kenya (TESPOK)

Fiona is currently the Chief Executive Officer of a non-governmental, not-for-profit Technology Service Providers Association of Kenya (TESPOK) that operates the Kenya Internet Exchange Point (KIXP) and Industry Computer Security Incident Response Team (i-CSIRT). She has 17 years experience working in the ICT sector in Kenya, 16 of which have been spent at TESPOK in various capacities and mainly as a liaison for the private sector engagement with government. She represents TESPOK Members as a private sector liaison at the East Africa region on ICT policy and regulations through the East Africa Communications Organization (EACO), where TESPOK is a member.

Fiona is currently representing the Kenya ICT private sector in The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Trade in Services Negotiations led by the Ministry of Trade. In January 2018 to March 2019, she developed and run the Collaborative Governance Training Program of the Internet Society as a consultant, together with Larry Strickling from the US Technical Training Institute. From 2011 to 2018 she was one of the three African representatives on the Number Resource Organization – Number Council and her role on the NRO involved coordinating Numbering Resource issues across the five Regional Internet Registries.

Fiona also doubled as a member of the Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) Address Supporting Organization- Address Council where they co-ordinate the development of Global Numbering Resource Policy Development. During this period, she was involved in the IANA Transition process and developing appropriate accountability mechanisms. She has also been involved in the Expedited ICANN GNSO Policy Development Process that put in place mechanisms for the domain name alignment to Data protection requirements.

Fiona is a keen advocate of ICT for development and multi-stakeholder engagement for digital development.
